Hypnotherapy For Senior Citizens

As Old As Your Fears by Chrysalis

Home Visits

Over the past number of years I have worked very successfully with older people covering a range of conditions including insomnia, pain relief, depression, skin disorders, tinnitus, terminal cancer and anxiety, to mention but a few.  Some of these clients were too incapacitated to come to Setanta Hypnotherapy Clinic in Peel so home visits were arranged.

Hypnosis

First of all let me talk a little about hypnosis and who can or cannot be hypnotised.  Hypnosis is a state of relaxation, during hypnosis we allow our conscious mind to relax so that our subconscious mind comes forward and when this happens we can do some wonderful healing and life changing work.  There are only two types of people who cannot be hypnotised; those who are severely mentally incapacitated and those who choose not to be hypnotised.  The first type really are people who cannot respond to instructions however this may not always be the case with people who suffer age related conditions.

Success Stories

One of the oldest people I worked with was a lady in her nineties who was very deaf, had lost much of her memory and was suffering from insomnia.  This lady’s family contacted me from overseas to see if I could help her to sleep as she hadn’t slept for nine weeks.  I paid her a visit in her nursing home and although she was very deaf I saw immediately that she was exhausted and in need of help.  That first visit was strange in that it was the first time I shouted at someone to Relax!  In fact, this lady responded very well to touch and although she could not hear every word I said it was my touch on her hand and the tone of my voice which allowed her to go into hypnosis almost immediately.  The next visit saw me better prepared as I took my hypno-equipment with me including headphones so that she could easily hear every word I said.  Like all my clients this lady received her personalised CD which she listened to every night when she put her light out at 10pm.  From that night forward her routine changed, she slept for longer each night until she was sleeping five hours per night which given her age and the fact she dozed in her armchair during the day she, her family and I were very pleased with these results.

Another client I treated was for fear of choking when swallowing her tablets.  This client had to take oral medication in the form of large tablets every day at a certain time.  She called me to enquire if I could help and as with all people who are interested in our therapies I invited her in for a Free Initial Consultation.  She was very agitated and anxious about taking such large tables which could not be halved or broken into smaller pieces.  After eliciting information and explaining the therapy we embarked on a very successful course of therapy which not only alleviated the fear and anxiety but also helped her with pain management.

Sometimes older people have fears and anxiety about the approach of death and may be unable or unwilling to talk to their family about this.  Relaxation techniques are easily learned and once put into practise clients are free to enjoy the remaining time however long or short that may be.

Age Doesn’t Matter When It Comes To Healing

I have spoken about older people who may be suffering from either emotional or physical conditions which may be greatly relieved by hypnotherapy but there are many people out there who at this stage in their lives realise that there are changes they wish to make, changes for the better allowing them to really be themselves .  For them hypnotherapy is like a new journey of discovery!    Who is this person who behaves and reacts in the same way to the same situations?  Why is this happening over and over again?  For these clients who come to our clinic we suggest Analytical Hypnotherapy and together we embark on an inner journey where I am merely the guide and the client is following their route to freedom.  You know it doesn’t matter what age freedom is achieved, even if it is only for a few months or many years the feeling of discovering the real you without conditioning or limitations from the past is wonderful.  Both Xavier and I have worked with many, many older people over the years who in their last years just want to experience and enjoy this freedom. Their self esteem and self confidence grows because they become the person they really always wanted to be.

Society Needs Your Experience And Wisdom

Older people, like younger people, have their worries and insecurities but unlike younger people they tend to be less willing to open up about these to others.  Spouses, family members and friends may have died and so loneliness may make them very isolated and vulnerable.  With the aid of hypnotherapy life can be made meaningful once again and that person who felt “passed it” can once again take their rightful place in community life.

Hypnotherapy For Children

What Can Be Treated?

Hypnotherapy is fast becoming a very popular form of treatment for many conditions such as phobias, eating disorders, habits, and lack of self esteem and confidence or Stop Smoking. (Check extensive list from our website)

In our clinic I regularly see children to help them overcome such conditions, the youngest child I have treated was 22 months and have seen all ages between that and eighteen years of age.

Initial Free Consultation

Most parents are curious when they ring up to enquire if I can help their child, some are wary of the therapy and some may even be a little sceptical.  I offer a Free Initial Consultation to parents and child so that we can meet in person in order to ascertain if Hypnotherapy is indeed the best course of action.

During this consultation the parents are free to ask any questions which I answer to allay any fears or concerns.  But, of course, the most important person at the consultation is the young person and that child must feel safe and happy to work with me.

Children are very responsive to therapy because of their active imaginations and unlike adults they have not lived with the condition for years and years.  Usually three sessions are required to address most conditions.

Session 1

The first session is what I call Information Gathering, during this consultation I get all the details of the condition, a history of the child and the condition from parent and child (depending on age) and what changes would be acceptable for the child.  Art Therapy is used to help the child express their worries, fears or habit.

From the information I receive during the first session I make a personalised CD for that child.  This CD is of benefit only to that child as it has details of the favourite characters from book, TV programme or best friends, in fact, details which are important to that particular child.

Session 2

The following session is a live Suggestion Therapy session, in which the child relaxes deeply enough to allow access to the subconscious so that suggestions for change are accepted. The personalised CD is given at the end of this session.  This CD, which contains the suggestions given during the Suggestion Therapy session, must be played at bedtime for at least ninety nights following this session.  This allows the positive suggestions to take root in the subconscious mind for spontaneous activation during daily life.

Final Session

The final session starts with a chat with child and parents to discuss any changes since the start of therapy followed by some Art Therapy and ending with a booster confidence building exercise.

Personalised Therapy

This is a rough guide to how the sessions progress but of course Hypnotherapy is a personalised therapy and may vary in structure to best suit the child.  Young people presenting with eating disorders may need to undertake more than three sessions and these will be structured to best address their condition and symptoms.

Down through the years I have worked with many, many children very successfully. We are lucky to have great support from our GPs who value the wonderful therapies we provide.  Hypnosis is a wonderful tool for healing and it is a gift for life.  Each client, old enough to follow my simple directions will be taught the art of self-hypnosis and this can be used in all situations which may cause anxiety or worry through school, working life and day-to-day living.

Enquiries

Most of the enquiries we receive for hypnotherapy are by telephone and e-mail and most of the people who contact us find us through our advertisement in the Yellow Pages. People contact us to help them with a wide variety of conditions but until we physically meet the person it is difficult to assess their condition and prescribe the treatment that would suit them best. We also give them the choice of being treated by a male (me) or female  therapist (Mary).

Free Initial Consultation

We offer a Free Initial Consultation to everyone who seeks our help and during this meeting we listen to the client and assess whether or not we think we can help. If we feel that the person will benefit from the treatment we provide we then recommend the most suitable therapy and we discuss fees.
We normally do not discuss fees until we have met the client and though payment is an important part of the therapy we have never turned anyone away because of money issues.

Payment Method

We have always found a way that was mutually acceptable and ensured that the client valued the treatment they were paying and at the same time did not feel stressed by the financial commitment.

Most people pay by cheque after each weekly session and some even pay in advance as a symbol of their commitment.  Some people come every two weeks and others opt to pay by monthly standing order until they have paid for the sessions they have had.

Issues Surrounding Payment

Some people have a problem spending money on themselves ; the main reason being feeling  undeserving. Sometimes the issue of feeling undeserving is the biggest obstacle to a person seeking help in the first place. During the Free Initial Consultation this issue would be discussed if it emerges and the client given every opportunity to pay in a way that would make them feel deserving of the help we provide.

Young People and Payment

When young people come accompanied by their parents for our Stop Smoking therapy we suggest that the young person repays their parents for the cost of therapy.  This ensures that the young client takes responsibility  for success of his/her own therapy which is very empowering for the client.  (Those young people and their parents can come to whatever financial arrangement they choose. ) For other therapies we believe that the child deserves to have the cost covered by the parents.

Bottom Line

We, at Setanta Hypnotherapy Clinic, try to ensure that money is not a reason for not undertaking therapy but it too can be used as a tool to develop self worth and confidence.

In this day and age people are finding themselves under increasing stress and hypnotherapy is no longer a luxury but fast becoming a necessity. Rather than  looking for ways to justify spending money on our own health and well being it is time we reassessed our priorities and start putting ourselves first. What good are we to ourselves, our families and the world if we are suffering and unhappy?

Hypnosis for Life

Following is a five minutes long video that we have created to explain hypnosis and its uses in healing. Any condition created by the mind can be healed by the mind.

How to Lose 30 Lbs in 90 Days

The Body is a Metaphor

Our physical well being is a reflection of our emotional and spiritual well being. Our physical appearance is a creation of mind that is an indication of what is going on inside of us. If the island you can see is the physical aspect of who you are then the ocean all around you represents your emotional and spiritual aspects. As you sit on the island beach looking out over the horizon you are consciously oblivious to that other world beneath the waves. This is how it is with each one of us as we go about our daily activities oblivious to the forces within, that control everything we think, say and do.

Inner Conflict Sabotages our Efforts to Change

If you are over weight then chances are you don’t feel good about it. If you do feel good about being overweight then you are not overweight and you should stop reading this article. Feeling bad about any aspect of yourself is an indication of inner conflict and you are sabotaging every effort you exert to make the changes you know you want. The secret to making any change is in overcoming the dynamic of mind that resists change.

Knowing what you want and feeling what you want are two very separate experiences, the dynamic of which, many people fail to understand. Though everybody realises at some stage in their lives that there are times when they cannot get themselves to do what they want to do, they still keep trying anyway. How many people do you know who have tried to lose weight by cutting down on the amount they eat and exercising more only to keep failing miserably? How many times have you given up on diets and exercise regimes that you simply could not stick to? Every time you fail at something you lose a little more self confidence which makes it harder the next time you try.

If you feel overweight then you are thinking about yourself in a certain way. The way you are thinking about yourself is definitely not the way slim people think about themselves. Here already evident is the dynamic between thought and feeling. The feeling creates the atmosphere for the kind of thinking that it generates and the thinking creates more of these same feelings until you are trapped inside a cycle of thoughts and feelings that attract people and circumstances to create even more of the same thoughts and feelings. The thinking directs your energy and that is why you find yourself thinking more frequently and more intensely about food than someone who does not feel as you do about yourself. The point here is the importance of the interaction between thought and feeling that many people fail to realise.

Change Your Mind if You Want to Change

In order to make any change in your life you must first create the change in your mind. The mind commands and the body obeys. The only trouble with this is the mind is sending conflicting commands so no change ever occurs. Your first and most important task is to create in your mind the change that you want for yourself.

To lose weight you will need to change the thoughts and feelings you have toward yourself to thoughts and feelings you would have about yourself if you were thinner.

So how do you change your mind? The answer is very simple and lies in a feeling called Hypnosis.

Hypnosis is the Key

Hypnosis is a feeling everyone naturally experiences but few know how to achieve deliberately. It is unfortunate that most people associate hypnosis with the antics of stage hypnotists and so never take the feeling seriously as a means to make lasting changes in their lives. Hypnosis is a feeling anyone can learn to achieve deliberately and for that reason I created an audio that does just that. By regularly playing the audio you eventually learn to experience the feeling of hypnosis and in becoming familiar with the feeling your mind automatically learns how to get it back every time you choose to experience the feeling.

In order to lose weight the first step is to teach yourself how to achieve the feeling of hypnosis. Once you can do that you are in a position to change the thoughts and feelings you feel toward yourself to the the thoughts and feelings of a thinner human being. You then wake up every morning feeling so appreciative of being you because you start noticing changes immediately. You realise how powerful your mind is and for the first time in a very long time you start to say what you really think and you start to do what you say. In other words your mind and heart start to work as one. So when you say that will not longer eat certain kinds of bread, or that you will never again use oil to cook then you know you won’t. Doubt will no longer exist.

It becomes easy then to follow my final instructions for you to lose the weight you want in the time frame you choose. I suggest 30lbs in 90 days but that is not a hard and fast rule. You choose but it is important that the mindset is correct before you begin.

Download the audio “Introduction to Hypnosis” and put it on your iPod or MP3 player. You could burn it to CD if you wish. Play the audio “Introduction to Hypnosis” every day for at least 2 weeks before following my final instructions. Some people play it every night in bed before falling asleep others find time during the day or even before getting up in the morning. Do what suits you but it is a very crucial element for success in this method.

Final Instructions to Losing 30lbs in 90 Days:

Part 1

  1. For a period of 3 days eat only meat and fish. No bread, no rice no vegetables, no pasta , no sugar, no alcohol, no cereals, no chocolate, no salt, and definitely no oil or butter.
  2. Eat a small bowl of porridge in the morning for breakfast and change to a sugar substitute like Splenda if you need to sweeten it.
  3. If you get peckish you can eat slices of ham or chicken. You can also eat fat free cottage cheese and fat free yoghurt whenever you feel hungry.
  4. To cook meat I suggest you slice onions and use these slices of onions as a bed to fry the meat on but no oil.
  5. Drink plenty of water but no fizzy or sugar based drinks.
  6. You can also eat boiled eggs but no salt.

Part 2

Having eaten as I have suggested above for three days. You will notice some major changes physically, emotionally and mentally. Your thoughts and feelings are in line with your desires and your life takes on a whole new meaning. What started off as losing weight becomes much more than that and you feel great. You realise how easy it is to lose weight and to stop eating and drinking those things that prevented you from feeling as good as you feel from not putting them in your body for three days. You are now ready to embark on a completely new style of life. Certain foods and drinks now simply repulse you and you know you will never eat or drink them again. Following is a plan you now find easy to follow and you continue to play the audio throughout the 90 days program.

For the 90 days you eat three meals a day. You have a choice of porridge or eggs in the morning. Meat or fish for lunch and again meat, eggs or fish for dinner. You can eat as much sliced ham, chicken and cottage cheese or yoghurt in between meals but will find yourself doing less of that as time goes on. Weigh yourself at the end of every week and take your measurements to see the progress you are making. It is very important to maintain this high protein diet for at least 50 days. After that you can start introducing vegetables, and fruit into your diet. Wholemeal brown bread can also be introduced but never more than 2 slices of wholemeal brown bread per day.

You will find that you have more energy for exercise and I highly recommend some easy Yoga type stretches and postures in the morning followed by a few minutes of meditation or silent sitting.

Walking is the best exercise and I highly recommend a daily routine of walking brusquely for between 30 minutes to an hour.

The Middle Way

There is no need to overdo anything. You are now finding the “middle way” advocated by Buddha. You are now experiencing a life of moderation and you feel happier and more alive than you have ever been.

This is a 90 day journey that prepares you for the more important journey of your life without all that extra baggage, physically represented by the weight you are carrying and emotionally by the heavy heart you carry around full of regret, past failures and apathy. Having taken the time to purify yourself physically you have also triggered an emotional and spiritual response that propels you positively into the rest of a very bright future for yourself and everyone you touch.

Bon Voyage!

Mind Mine of Thought

In my last post I reiterated the basis for the principle of how we create our reality. I explained that by directing thought we can deliberately affect our feelings and it is these feelings that create our reality.

Many people get hung up on this idea and I get lots of questions about it. Most of the questions have got to do with the idea that people do not want to believe that they have been responsible for everything that they have attracted, the good and the bad. They don’t mind accepting responsibility for the good but they refuse point blank to accept any responsibility for the bad.

I am asked if  the Native American Indians conjured up their own genocide by dreaming up smallpox and European cavalry. My reply to that  is the Native American Indian will have felt many emotions and their minds would have most certainly been preoccupied with thoughts of the white eye overrunning their land. This focus of thought would have affected their emotions and how they felt and so they created a reality they experienced as a group.

Goyakla the Apache, or Geronimo as he was later commonly known, however created a different reality for himself and his followers for a long time. His feelings of anger and thoughts of invincibility fuelled his reality until he chose to allow his mind to be hijacked and futility fuelled his decision to surrender and be captured. The Native American Indians did not consciously set out to create their own destruction nor do people deliberately set out to get cancer but the Native American Indian did and we do get cancer. As long as man insists on being a victim and choosing to place his trust in a driver he imagines is driving the bus called life the dynamic of how destruction and disease works will continue to elude him.

How we direct our thought is only part of the equation and by itself is a frustrating exercise in mind control. Although I emphasise the fact that I am not condoning force or the any kind I still get people telling me that they loved what I wrote but find it exhausting trying to root out all their negative thoughts and forcing themselves to be positive always ends up in frustration.

It is like telling me that you ran into a dark room with a torch and did battle with darkness. You shone the torch everywhere and cut through the darkness but it persisted and no matter how hard you tried to defeat the darkness it remained everywhere your torch did not shine. Darkness disappears when you tun on the light in the room. There is no battle or force involved. There is no room for darkness when you turn on the light in the room. By doing battle with thoughts that you do not want you evoke feelings that simply fuel those same thoughts so you sabotage your own efforts from the start.  Why stand outside the room hating the darkness?  Go in and turn on the light. Observe the thought as you would anything outside of yourself. The thought  is not you, it is separate from you and it survives by you identifying with it. Observe it with the curiosity like a child who picks up a caterpillar to look at it and then leave it down and move your attention to where you want it to go.

Like someone who has just stopped smoking or drinking or eating chocolate. You decided to stop but the thoughts of having a cigarette or a drink persist. Every time the thought arises or passes near you, rather than running from it or giving in to it, observe it and simply say something to the effect “oh there you are again.” Create this separateness between you and it and eventually the separateness becomes so wide  it disappears into the horizon. You make it more difficult for yourself when you engage your feelings and that is why I say suspend your feelings and view the unwanted thoughts as curiosities and they become strangers.

To make it easier for you to practise the art of separating yourself from thought that would otherwise sabotage your happiness I have created a 10 minutes Morning Meditation that you can download for free from my website and put on your iPod or MP3 player. To download this recording Click on the following link to Setanta Hypnotherapy Clinic Downloads page

Following is a link to an article I wrote under the name Spirit Whisperer on HubPages. I explain by way of my own personal experience, how our limiting beliefs can sabotage  our efforts to achieve what we truly desire and how I overcame these same limiting beliefs.

Think Thank Thoughts of Love to Happiness

We spend most of our lives see-sawing between our feelings. Sometimes it might feel as if you are on a boat on the ocean at the mercy of the weather not realising that not only does the boat you are in have oars but it also has an engine. We wake up every morning not knowing what to expect and if we take the time to think about it most of us would probably imagine that life happens to us and how we feel depends on external circumstances quite out of our control. In this article I would like to explain how you are responsible for how you feel.

Happiness like sadness is a feeling. You can’t explain a feeling all you can do is feel it. You can explain a thought but you cannot feel a thought. A thought is not a feeling. I can think about the sea and even remember or imagine a time I spent by the sea. I can even conjure up the sound of the sea, the smell of the sea and the feel of the spray on my skin. The feeling I associate with this thought could be sadness because I am sitting on the beach crying because my wife has left me for another man or it could be joyful as I look out over the horizon in anticipation of seeing the boat that is bringing my son home from war.

The thought you think affects your mood and makes you feel how you feel. The thought propels you into the feeling and once you are feeling the feeling your thoughts are hijacked and you keep thinking those thoughts and making yourself feel more of those same feelings.

Normally when we are in “idle” mode thoughts come and go. When we give a thought our attention we are directing ourselves into a feeling. It is how we choose our thoughts that determines our mood and the way we feel. The thoughts we pay attention to create our feelings. So you can conclude that the more time you spend paying attention to happy thoughts the happier you will become. By the same token the more time you spend thinking about sad things the sadder you feel.

By thinking happy thoughts you make yourself feel happy. Thinking sad thoughts makes you feel sad. You are the only one in there with you. You are the one doing the thinking and you are the one choosing the thoughts to think. So, you are the one responsible for how you feel.

Knowing this then why won’t you choose to think the thoughts that will bring you feelings of happiness, joy and love? The reason is habit. The mind has gotten into bad habits. Because you have never taken control of your ship and directed your mind to think what you want your mind has been steering the boat. The boat has gotten used to docking at certain ports and to steer a new course to happier destinations you must now take control of the steering wheel.

Like any change you want to make in your life some effort must be exerted initially. By persistence in choosing the thoughts to focus upon you change the old pattern and you get used to a new way of being in the world.
One very good way to trick your mind into reversing its attention from sad to happy thoughts is to regularly ask your self the question “What can I be grateful for right now in my life?” Simply finding things in your life to be grateful for has the affect of changing the direction of your thoughts from negative to positive and so altering how you feel. Start the day saying thank you, spend the day saying thank you and end the day saying thank you. This is a sure way to attract more love and happiness into your life. .

Keep finding things to be really grateful for like things that you have, things that you do and things that you are and you will start feeling happier. You cannot feel bad while you are feeling grateful so gratitude is the short cut back to happiness. The happiness then makes it easier for you to remember happy memories and the cycle continues. Photographs are a great way of getting you to kick start happy memories.

Before I get out of bed every morning I say thank you to my bed and feel a great sense of appreciation that I have such a comfortable bed to sleep in. I look across at my wife and I think how thankful I am to have another day to spend with her. I look across at a photograph of myself as a boy of 3 years old and I thank the child within me. I thank the clothes I am going to put on. I say thank you to my body for being fit and healthy and the list goes on. I spend at least 10 minutes every morning doing this before even getting out of bed and continue to do this during the day as often as I remember to do. I thank everyone I meet (not out loud but in my heart) and send them good feelings. What you send out comes back to you 100 fold. I do it and it works. I am a very happy man most of the time and when I am not I know exactly how to become happy again and I do!

Here is a poem by a lady who expresses everything I say here in this post but far more eloquently. Shipwrecked by tnderhrt23

The Power by Rhonda Byrne

This is a life changing book that explains the power of love. Each one of us has the choice to think what we want but we seldom exercise this choice. We spend most of the day on auto pilot reacting in the same way to people and events that occur oblivious to the fact that we are creating our feelings and our circumstances. Our thoughts affect how we feel and when we feel bad we tend to think more bad thoughts and create even more bad feeling and this situation continues until we think good thoughts to lift our mood. Our feelings attract into our lives people and circumstances that reflect how we feel and that is why it is in our interests to exercise the power of choice to create happiness and always be connected to universal power of love.

The Phyllis Krystal Method using the Figure 8 to Achieve Freedom from Attachment

JearviMost people now accept that we are much more than physical beings. We have a conscious and a subconscious mind. We have an intellect and we also have emotions.

We use language to communicate our conscious ideas and thoughts to ourselves and to each other but we use a far more complex system to communicate our feelings.

It is not what someone says but what the person feels that is communicated. Eloquent words can never truly mask feelings that are not in harmony with the spoken word. You know when someone is lying to you. You can hear their words but your gut is telling you something different.

Most of what we do in our normal waking lives is subconsciously motivated. A smoker will often find himself smoking and not remember lighting his cigarette. A person driving a car arrives at the destination but doesn’t remember the journey. A person biting her nails will suddenly suddenly realise she is doing so but not remember lifting her hand to her mouth for the purpose of biting her nails.

When we dream we are like scuba divers in the ocean of our subconscious. When we awake in the morning we bring back photographs of our feelings. Each image is a symbol representing a feeling or complex of emotions. Our dreams are an indication of our subconscious communication and our dream images are a way for us to learn the language of our subconscious. Just as we learned how to consciously communicate through language we can learn the language of the subconscious by connecting our dream symbols with the images we bring back with us. Each symbol is personal so that is why it does not make a lot of sense for anyone else to interpret our dreams for us. Our dream symbols are unique so what symbolizes something for you may not symbolize the same thing for someone else.  It is for this reason that  consulting a dream book that tells you the meaning of each symbol you bring back from your dream world is a complete waste of time. There are as many meanings as there are people in the world. You are unique and only you can decipher your own symbols. A therapist can help you learn the language of your dreams but it is not any therapist’s place to interpret your dreams for you.

Having said this, however, there are symbols that are recognised by the collective unconscious. One such symbol is the figure 8. The figure 8 is naturally recognised by each person’s subconscious and is used very effectively to communicate with the subconscious one’s conscious desire to sever unhealthy attachments to people, and addictions. It is no good shouting at the subconscious and demanding it stops you from over eating, smoking, indulging in destructive behaviours. It is no good begging your subconscious to feel good about yourself or to stop seeing your father as cruel and insensitive. Your subconscious does not understand English or any other language you speak. You must learn the language of the subconscious to communicate your wishes. Your subconscious wants to give you whatever you want even if it is bad for you. It simply answers all your requests regardless. The problem is you don’t even know that you are continuously requesting and receiving everything you ask for. There is communication between what you consciously dwell upon and how these thoughts create feelings. It is the intensity of the emotions created by the thoughts you most frequently dwell upon that forms the communication with your subconscious. You use your thoughts and feelings to order what you want in your life but you don’t know you are doing this.

The English psychotherapist, Phyllis Krystal developed a method of communicating with the subconscious for the purpose of freeing the individual from reliance on and attachment to outer symbols of control and/or security. The method involves being guided by our own inner source of wisdom which is available to everyone. Phyllis Krystal has written many books in which she describes her journey in developing the techniques that people all over the world have used with great success. She has given numerous seminars all over Europe showing people how to achieve the freedom they seek. In her book Cutting the Ties that Bind she explains how to use the symbol of the figure 8 to sever our negative attachments to people and anything else that hijacks our personal power and prevents our development as human beings.

In my private practice as a Hypnotherapist & Psychotherapist I use the techniques developed by Phyllis Krystal with most of the people who seek my help and have found them invaluable. Using the methods developed by Phyllis Krystal both personally and in my capacity as a therapist has greatly enhanced my life and my effectiveness as a healer of minds.

I have listed all the books written by Phyllis Krystal at the bottom of this article and highly recommend each one for your own personal journey to free yourself from all that holds you back in your life and to truly express who you really are.

As a Man Thinketh

James Allen

James Allen

How Thought Creates Your Reality

James Allen (1864 to 1912) was a humble man of humble origins who said what he thought and did what he said. He discovered a way to achieve happiness consistently and in all circumstances as long as certain laws of the universe were adhered to. The laws of the universe I refer to are the same laws described by all the saints, mystics and prophets down though the ages. They are the same laws decribed in the Christian Bible, the Koran of Islam, The Vedas of the Hindus and in all the sacred ancient texts. James Allen didn’t discover anything new he just became aware of how to use what was already available to each one of us.

His education was interrupted at the age of fifteen when he was forced to leave school to support his family after his father was killed. He worked hard and made the best of what life had given him. After uncovering the laws that governed reality he devoted his life to applying these laws and teaching people how to use them. He wrote nineteen books in all and though he did not receive fame or fortune in his own lifetime his books have inspired millions since his death.

I learned of James Allen when my father gave me the book “As A Man
Thinketh
” as I set out on my own life’s journey as a young man. I didn’t fully understand the ideas explained in the book at first. It has taken me many years and many readings to come to the understanding I have today of what James Allen wanted to teach the world. I would like to share with you this understanding which I practice in my own life. No doubt I will continue to refine this understanding as the years progress and I invite you to join me in exploring how our thoughts create and are constantly altering our reality.

Thought is an energy. Like electricity or magnetism you can’t see it but you know it exists because of its effects. Though electricity isn’t completely understood we use it and have become dependent on it for some of our basic needs like heat and light. Thought too can be harnessed by the mind for the effects it produces. Scientists know how to harness electricity to create heat and light but few ever learn how to harness the power of thought to create health, wealth and happiness. We are all aware of the desire for every human being to be healthy, wealthy and happy but there is no subject in the school curriculum that teaches us how to achieve these things. Can any of you remember your very first thought? Do you even remember the first thought you have on waking? Yet we spend most of our lives immersed in thought. The only times we are not thinking are times when we are driving and arrive at our destination unable to remember the journey, or when we are dozing or sleeping. Are you thinking when you are watching TV or a movie or is your mind doing something else? Surely you must remember a time during a boring lesson or meeting when you were jolted back to the present when someone called your name? Have you ever had the experience of being stuck on the same page in a book because every time you read the paragraph you can’t remember what you read?

What if thought is an energy at our disposal? What if it could be moulded to create anything we wanted in our lives but this came with a condition? In order to create something we had to deliberately choose to make it a habit to dwell on thoughts about the thing we wanted. What if it was as simple as dwelling upon a thought form in order to create what we wanted? How then could a child who thinks he is stupid ever be clever? How then could a man be poor if he dwells upon thoughts of how to create wealth? How could a woman be loved if she harbours thoughts of how unlovable she is? Thoughts are like radio waves all around us and we tune into certain frequencies depending on how we feel. The happier we feel the higher the thought forms we attract and so we simply feed ourselves more happiness. The more miserable we feel the more we attract thoughts of misery and by feeding our minds with more of the same we feel worse. It is our choice of thought initially that starts the cycle so wouldn’t it make sense to choose the thoughts to dwell upon in order to create the feelings we desire? The chair you are sitting on started off as a thought in someones head. That person must have spoken about the idea and eventually enough energy was invested in the idea to give it momentum and it is now physically manifested under you. It is not magic, it is a process and once you understand the process you can use it to create not just the feelings you desire but even the material things you want.

It is not enough to consciously think about something in order to create it. If it was that simple then everybody would be doing it and the world would be Paradise. Effort is required and the effort involved is what stands in the way of every human being receiving everything they desire. It takes effort to change the habits and patterns of lifetimes. It takes effort to change and even though you might find yourself slipping back into your old negative thoughts you have free will and you can choose whatever you want to think about. It doesn’t matter whether or not you believe it will work just choose your thoughts and investigate the possibility with an open mind. what do you have to lose? If you are poor and struggling financially choose to imagine what it would feel like to be rich. Unless you replace your thoughts of poverty with thoughts of wealth how else are you going to change your reality? Well, you could entertain the idea that you could become rich and start imagining all the ways that this could happen. You could start reading about the lives of people who rose out of the ashes to become rich and famous. You could use your powerful imagination to shift your limiting beliefs and you could change your internal dialogue to hear yourself saying…”Everyday in every way I am becoming happier and happier, I am starting to love and accept myself more and more with each passing day.” Eventually the walls of Jericho did fall and so too the walls of your negative world will crumble and you will rebuild for yourself a stronger brighter, healthier, wealthier, world. Give it a go…what have you got to lose! Thank you Dad, and thank you James Allen.
