Think Thank Thoughts of Love to Happiness

We spend most of our lives see-sawing between our feelings. Sometimes it might feel as if you are on a boat on the ocean at the mercy of the weather not realising that not only does the boat you are in have oars but it also has an engine. We wake up every morning not knowing what to expect and if we take the time to think about it most of us would probably imagine that life happens to us and how we feel depends on external circumstances quite out of our control. In this article I would like to explain how you are responsible for how you feel.

Happiness like sadness is a feeling. You can’t explain a feeling all you can do is feel it. You can explain a thought but you cannot feel a thought. A thought is not a feeling. I can think about the sea and even remember or imagine a time I spent by the sea. I can even conjure up the sound of the sea, the smell of the sea and the feel of the spray on my skin. The feeling I associate with this thought could be sadness because I am sitting on the beach crying because my wife has left me for another man or it could be joyful as I look out over the horizon in anticipation of seeing the boat that is bringing my son home from war.

The thought you think affects your mood and makes you feel how you feel. The thought propels you into the feeling and once you are feeling the feeling your thoughts are hijacked and you keep thinking those thoughts and making yourself feel more of those same feelings.

Normally when we are in “idle” mode thoughts come and go. When we give a thought our attention we are directing ourselves into a feeling. It is how we choose our thoughts that determines our mood and the way we feel. The thoughts we pay attention to create our feelings. So you can conclude that the more time you spend paying attention to happy thoughts the happier you will become. By the same token the more time you spend thinking about sad things the sadder you feel.

By thinking happy thoughts you make yourself feel happy. Thinking sad thoughts makes you feel sad. You are the only one in there with you. You are the one doing the thinking and you are the one choosing the thoughts to think. So, you are the one responsible for how you feel.

Knowing this then why won’t you choose to think the thoughts that will bring you feelings of happiness, joy and love? The reason is habit. The mind has gotten into bad habits. Because you have never taken control of your ship and directed your mind to think what you want your mind has been steering the boat. The boat has gotten used to docking at certain ports and to steer a new course to happier destinations you must now take control of the steering wheel.

Like any change you want to make in your life some effort must be exerted initially. By persistence in choosing the thoughts to focus upon you change the old pattern and you get used to a new way of being in the world.
One very good way to trick your mind into reversing its attention from sad to happy thoughts is to regularly ask your self the question “What can I be grateful for right now in my life?” Simply finding things in your life to be grateful for has the affect of changing the direction of your thoughts from negative to positive and so altering how you feel. Start the day saying thank you, spend the day saying thank you and end the day saying thank you. This is a sure way to attract more love and happiness into your life. .

Keep finding things to be really grateful for like things that you have, things that you do and things that you are and you will start feeling happier. You cannot feel bad while you are feeling grateful so gratitude is the short cut back to happiness. The happiness then makes it easier for you to remember happy memories and the cycle continues. Photographs are a great way of getting you to kick start happy memories.

Before I get out of bed every morning I say thank you to my bed and feel a great sense of appreciation that I have such a comfortable bed to sleep in. I look across at my wife and I think how thankful I am to have another day to spend with her. I look across at a photograph of myself as a boy of 3 years old and I thank the child within me. I thank the clothes I am going to put on. I say thank you to my body for being fit and healthy and the list goes on. I spend at least 10 minutes every morning doing this before even getting out of bed and continue to do this during the day as often as I remember to do. I thank everyone I meet (not out loud but in my heart) and send them good feelings. What you send out comes back to you 100 fold. I do it and it works. I am a very happy man most of the time and when I am not I know exactly how to become happy again and I do!

Here is a poem by a lady who expresses everything I say here in this post but far more eloquently. Shipwrecked by tnderhrt23

Akutagawa Literary Prize Winner Kenta Nishimura and Japanese Bushido

The literary prize winner Kenta Nishimura recently shared the 144th Akutagawa Prize for his novel “Kueki Ressha”. Literary critic Yuzo Tsubouchi hailed Nishimura’s work, saying,”The writer has an excellent way of making the main character relevant and objectively depicting his foolishness. The story is set in the years of Japan’s asset-inflated economy. There are few novels that depict the city of Tokyo during that period from the view point of a junior high school graduate who works as a labourer. In that context, the book is also important as a historical record. The work is based on the writer’s real-life experiences, but it also projects a larger picture.”

The Akutagawa Prize is probably Japan’s most sought after literary prize because of its prestige and

Akutagawa Ryunosuke

the considerable media attention it receives. The award is presented in January and July every year and was established by a magazine editor Kan Kikuchi in 1935 in memory of the famous Japanese author Ryūnosuke Akutagawa. The prize is awarded to the best serious story published in a newspaper or magazine by a new or rising author. The prize includes a watch and one million yen which is about US$12,000 by today’s rate of exchange.

It is not just the work of the 43 year old Tokyo born writer Kenta Nishimura that is inspiring but his very unusual background. As a young boy he suffered the shame of his father being arrested which made it impossibe for his family to remain in their hometown. He left school to work as a labourer at the age of 14 and lived from hand to mouth drinking what he earned and getting into trouble with the police.

His award winning novel “Kueki Ressha” is roughly translated as “Labour Train” is based on Nishimura’s own personal experience as a day labourer in his youth who spends everything he earns on alcohol and prostitutes.

At the age of 23 Nishimura came across a piece of writing by a famous novelist Seizo Fujisawa which would change the course of his life. Nishimura identified with the pathetic characters depicted in Fujisawa’s novels who were people at the bottom of the barrel of society. Fujisawa’s own destructive life-style made Nishimura realise something about himself.

Nishimura describes himself as someone no self respecting girl could ever love he has resignedhimself to a life as a bachelor, and has devoted his life to writing. Writing is now his life’s partner and through his work he has learned to express himself. The man who continues to spend his life hating himself and violently attacking the world and anyone who comes close to him is now fast becoming a man loved by the Japanese people.

Nishimura’s hero, Seizo Fujisawa who was never able to raise himself out of poverty and degradation was found frozen to death in a public park in Tokyo aged 43. During his press conference after finding out about winning the prestigious Akutagawa award Nishimura said something that sets him apart. He explained very honestly the reason why Fujisawa remains such an important figure in his life. It is not that Fujisawa is his inspiration but rather more the fact that he had found in Fujisawa a more hopeless human being than himself.

Nishimura offers himself as a kind of sacrifice to his readers like Fujisawa does for him so that his readers have someone they can see as worse off than themselves. Nishimura feels that by having someone worse off than yourself life becomes more bearable and your chances of finding reasons to go on are greatly increased.

Nishimura is a man quite happy to express himself freely in his writing and it is this honesty which though disturbing is a revealing record of the human condition laid bare. What you see is what you get and it is this quality that endears him to a nation that loves to hear stories of the human spirit rising from the ashes of destruction.

Nishimura’s admission of his addiction to writing is also very important in that he reveals how an addiction can also be life saving. Without his writing he says he is nothing. It is all he has and by identifying with an activity no matter what it is we see how the mind uses association to create needs that require fulfilment and so can prolong the life span of even an individual as self destructive as Nishimura.

Nishimura shuns friendship and does not allow anyone to enter his heart. This is a man who has been conditioned at a very early age to protect himself emotionally and his words indicate that he has learned to hate himself in the process. Many of the people who come to me for help in my capacity as a Hypno-Psychotherapist at the Setanta Hypnotherapy Clinic in the Isle of Man, simply do not like themselves. The voice inside of them criticises them every day and all day long. The language they use reflects their thoughts and reveals how they create the feelings they have of themselves. Nishimura is no different to any of us and given the same conditions at birth I wonder how many of us would have survived till now let alone win literary acclaim? Nishimura’s story is one of great hope and at the same time it is also a story of great sadness. He has triumphed over great adversity and found the spirit that made his nation great shining brightly within. This is the story of Bushido in modern day Japan and a tribute to the human spirit.

Hinotori

Nishimura seeks no approval he just is but I can’t help but think what his plans might be when I read that in 2002, Nishimura bought his own grave next to Fujisawa’s. What will happen when he completes and releases his current work which is the Fujisawa’s complete collection? Has Nishimura in the spirit of Bushido found a way to elevate himself to the level of Samurai and to regain the honour his father lost for himself and his family? Could Fujisawa represent the father figure  whose honour and reputation Nishimura is painstakingly working to redeem? I see Nishimura as a modern day Samurai who is showing us that if he can then anyone can deal with adversity and like the Phoenix of Osamu Tezuka rise up from the ashes in glory.

Good heart to you Kenta Nishimura and keep your light shining brightly!

You can watch Tezuka Osamu’s Hinotori (Phoenix) on YouTube which is his “life’s work” about reincarnation which comes in 12 books. Several of the stories have been adapted for TV into a series and you can watch these in episodes on YouTube. Each story is self contained and generally involves a search for immortality, symbolised by “The Fire Bird”.  This is a great favourite of mine.

You Attract What You Think About Most

Microsoft office ImageThe Universe wants to give you everything you desire. When I say everything I mean EVERYTHING and this includes material possessions, things you want to do and even the way you want to be. So if you want to be rich, if you want a new car, if you want that promotion, if you want to find your perfect partner, the Universe wants to make your wishes come true. You might then ask why don’t you already have all the things you desire if the Universe wants you to have them? The problem is you were given free will. The Universe cannot give you what you say you want when you live as if you do not want what you ask for. It is like saying one thing and meaning another. You have to mean what you say and do what you mean for the Universe to comply. You must make the effort to understand the laws that govern our existence if you are to use those same laws to enhance your life. It is not a coincidence that one man is rich and another is poor. There are no coincidences in life. We create what we have and if you don’t like what you have then you must endeavour to understand how you created what you have in the first place and let go of your victim mentality. You are in charge and you have always been in charge of what you have, what you do and what you are. You just never realised how you created it all.

The thoughts that enter your mind are like birds that fly across the sky. You can choose to follow Microsoft Office Imagethe trajectory of any thought that crosses the sky of your mind and by the same token you also have the choice not to follow a thought. Some thoughts when followed lead to feelings of sadness, anger and fear. It is like getting on a bus to go to a place you know you don’t like. Why get on the bus in the first place and why keep taking the bus to the same horrible destination? You and only you can choose your thoughts. There is nobody else inside you telling you what to think. The thoughts you choose to dwell upon affect your feelings and it is your feelings that attract the people and circumstances that create what you have. If you dwell on sad miserable thoughts then the destination will always be sadness and misery. If you choose to dwell on happy thoughts then you will feel happy. This is a basic law of the Universe but one that seems to get missed by the majority of people nowadays who would prefer to believe in some power outside themselves to blame for their misery and hardship.

Microsoft office ImageSo when someone annoys you or upsets you you have the free will to choose how to think about that. You can choose to give your power away and allow your thoughts to be hijacked by the person who upset or annoyed you. By doing this you are attracting even more upset and annoyance but most people just keep going like the hamster on the treadmill behaving as if they had no choice. By choosing to think positively about anything that happens you are in affect reclaiming your power of choice and you are no longer a victim. If you choose to think positively then you attract positive results and get what you desire. You get back what you give out. It is as simple as that!

There is effort required to break old habits. You have spent your life being led by the nose byMicrosoft Office Image thoughts that have made you feel bad and you never realised that you had a choice. To break this habit you must develop a new habit. Think about all the things you love. Not just material things, think also of the things you love doing and the things you love being. Keep your mind occupied by everything you love and then only speak about the things you love. If you do this you are making an effort to change the old patterns and you are choosing to take responsibility for your life and your happiness.

Every morning first thing before you get out of bed set the wheels of positive thought in motion by choosing to think about things you love. Use every excuse to talk about what you love throughout your day. Rather than join in conversations that involve speaking badly of another compliment your colleagues at work at every opportunity and deliberately find things about them to compliment. Love your ability to change, love your awareness of how lucky you are, love the clothes you wear, love the food you eat simply find excuses to think and speak about what you love and before you know it you will be attracting into your life all the best things in life and more because the Universe responds to love quicker than it does to anything else in this world. You Microsoft Office Imageare the miracle in your own life.  All you have to do to reclaim your happiness is wake up from your self imposed sleep and take charge of your life by choosing happy thoughts to dwell upon. Your thoughts affect your feelings and it is your feelings that are heard by the Universe. If you spend most of your day feeling sad then that is what the Universe hears that you want and it goes out of its way to pile on even more sadness and misery. Feel what you want and trust the Universe to give you what you feel. Seen in this light doesn’t it make sense to deliberately choose to feel happy?

The Power by Rhonda Byrne

This is a life changing book that explains the power of love. Each one of us has the choice to think what we want but we seldom exercise this choice. We spend most of the day on auto pilot reacting in the same way to people and events that occur oblivious to the fact that we are creating our feelings and our circumstances. Our thoughts affect how we feel and when we feel bad we tend to think more bad thoughts and create even more bad feeling and this situation continues until we think good thoughts to lift our mood. Our feelings attract into our lives people and circumstances that reflect how we feel and that is why it is in our interests to exercise the power of choice to create happiness and always be connected to universal power of love.

A Holistic Approach to Stress and the Human Condition

Stress & The Human Condition
In this article I seek to raise awareness about stress as the underlying cause for many of the problems faced by almost every human being today and how we can individually dispel stress from our lives and collectively bring balance back into the world.
Before I talk about stress I want to talk about the human condition from the mind, body spirit perspective. If you see yourself as a brain and feel that neuroscience adequately explains the human condition or if you subscribe to the notion that you are a physical entity or that you are your thoughts then this article is not for you.
The human being is much more than his mind, his thoughts or his body. The human being is a complex of various aspects which I broadly label as physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. For any human being to feel fulfilled and be fully expressed then all aspects need to be allowed expression. In today’s world not all aspects are given the same status. Intelligence has been given special status and as a result the physical, emotion and spiritual aspects of our being have been relegated to positions of lesser and in some cases no importance.
.
The World places its Trust in Intelligence
The world today reflects society’s obsession with intelligence and though the evidence continues to point toward
a more balanced human expression the intellect continues to be hailed as God. There have never been more advances in medicine and still there have never been more people suffering with physical ill health.  More people than ever before are suffering from psychosomatic illnesses and disease.
The family unit, which was once the foundation and blueprint for all our relationships, is under more strain now than ever before. People are choosing to leave relationships rather than seeing difficulties in relationships as the means by which we grow and develop emotionally and spiritually.
There is a marked rise in the feeling of apathy among people who  are faced on a daily basis with images that no longer shock or touch our numbed emotions. We are like those inhabitants of Easter Island who had to have watched as they cut the last tree down and condemned their once rich society to oblivion. We too are standing by in a trance like state busying ourselves with routines that merely serve to distract us from our own contribution to the destruction of ourselves and our world.
.
Emotional & Spiritual Aspects are needed to Restore Balance
Stress, seen against the backdrop of the human condition I have described, takes on a more relevant meaning and one we can collectively claim responsibility for. Stress seen in these terms is an enormous problem that we each face everyday of our lives and it is so great a problem now that we are emotionally and spiritually unable to deal with it without some help.
The idea of taking responsibility for the destructive conditions we have collectively created for ourselves is a particularly hard pill to swallow but unless we can accept this responsibility for our part in this mess nothing will change. Our parents and their parents and their parents before them contributed to the notion that the way forward for humanity was to place all our trust in the intellect believing that man’s intelligence would get us happiness and even still as our world crumbles around us there those who still maintain that man’s intelligence will save the day.
The world is in the mess it is in today because we believed and continue  to believe that our emotional
and spiritual aspects are inferior to our intellect and we  fail to nurture all aspects of ourselves in equal proportions.
As parents and teachers we continue to support an  education system that is geared toward developing the intellect and preparing our children to make a living. As a result of this blatant disregard for the development of all aspects of the individual our children’s emotional intelligence is lacking. Without the necessary emotional and spiritual strength our children are ever increasingly  turning to alcohol and drugs at a far earlier age to cope with the stresses of today’s life. These are the same children who are the future leaders of the world and the cycle continues.
Having gone to such lengths to explain the gravity of the problem facing us today I will now go on to explain the remedy because by each drop taking responsibility for its place in the ocean the tides naturally behave as they should. By each of us taking responsibility and acting in the now we can change everything.
.
Intellect
The intellect is as important as any other aspect of the human being no more or no less. Your intellect is a tool for you to use when appropriate. If you are not master in the house of your own mind then your mind behaves like a spoilt child who always wants his way. By taking charge and using the power of your mind as a tool rather than  allowing yourself to be led by the nose by thoughts that are creating how you feel you are acting as opposed to reacting.
By dwelling on sad thoughts you will eventually make yourself feel sad. Sadness can easily become a habit if you allow your thoughts to lead you. Deliberately choosing to remember happy memories and dwelling on thoughts that make you feel happy is the way to dis-create sadness. Wouldn’t it be more intelligent to dwell on happy thoughts  if you wish to feel happier?
We know more about the laws that govern the universe than we do about the laws that govern our own happiness. One of the basic laws of thought is that our thought affects our feeling and we attract into our world everything and everyone to attract more of these same feelings. So the happier you feel the more happiness you attract and the more happy thoughts you think to create even more happy feelings and the cycle continues until we start thinking the opposite.
The universe wants to give you everything you desire and the way the universe gauges what you want is by watching your thoughts and listening to your feelings. You have free will so why don’t you exercise it instead of allowing your mind to think what it likes or has grown used to thinking? It is you and you alone responsible for the way you feel and only you can change how you feel according to the law as I have described.
.
Body
Our bodies are a physical manifestation of how we feel about ourselves. If you feel good about yourself your body will tell that story by your state of health. The way you hold yourself, the way you stand and walk are messages being sent out about you and how you feel . Your physical aspect is constantly broadcasting your state of being to the world and the signals being broadcast are being received by people and circumstances on the same frequency as you.
Your body is constantly talking in a language subconsciously understood by everyone around you.  By feeding your body balanced healthy food and drink  it respond positively by looking and feeling well. If you abuse your body then it will look abused.  Another law that is repeatedly ignored is the
connection between mind and body. When the mind commands and the body obeys so no matter how balanced your diet or how much you exercise if you see your self as unattractive, over weight, then that is what you will get.
.
Emotions
Many of us have been taught that it is weak to show our emotions. Hysteria has been associated withTriste women who express emotions and men who show any emotion are seen as wimps. People feel uncomfortable around the expression of emotions. Everything is done to prevent someone from expressing emotion and not because of our concern for the upset person but more because of how uncomfortable we are made to feel.
We learn at a very early age what is socially acceptable and that is one of the main reasons why we bury feelings and develop neuroses that account for almost all of the psychosomatic illnesses in our world today. Dis-ease is    our inability  to maintain a state of inner balance for more than 50% of our waking life.
.
Spiritual
"That"

"That"

We are in perfect health when mind and body are in harmony and this is the most conducive condition for a human being to look within and find the answers to all of our questions. When we put the thinker of our thoughts, the I we  think we are, under scrutiny we create space between our thoughts.

Eventually we experience the indescribable. There are no words to describe “that” as it is beyond knowledge, and the emotions. It is the experience of “that”  which all religion and which all the sacred ancient texts points to. When you can raise your conscious awareness high enough and for long enough each day of your life then you are using the laws of your nature to create your happiness, dispelling stress not just for yourself but for all of humanity enabling yourself to be in a space to ask the most important question of all “Who am I?”

.

Self-Hypnosis is a very effective way to learn how to direct our thoughts. By learning how to choose the thoughts to dwell upon we in effect are deciding how we want to feel. The feelings we create will in turn attract to us all the people and circumstances to create more of these feelings. I have created a very powerful audio file that you can download from our website to teach yourself the art of Self-Hypnosis.

.

The audio is called    How to Hypnotise Yourself it is in MP3 format and can be burnt to CD or copied to your iPod or MP3 player. Regularly playing the audio allows you to reclaim your freedom to choose what to think and feel.

Hypnosis with Psychotherapy is a Remedy for Healing

Because so may people associate hypnosis with entertainment and stage hypnosis some never realise the power of hypnosis for healing. Hypnosis continues to be used to great effect in the treatment of conditions created by the mind such as depression, panic attacks, sleeping problems, sexual difficulties, irritable bowel, overweight, lack of confidence, fears, phobias, post traumatic stress, and smoking.

People don’t deliberately set out to develop depression, panic attacks or sleeping problems. Nobodyconsciously sets out to create a weight problem or become addicted to tobacco. However these problems exist in the world and people who have these conditions feel embarrassed and even judged for having them.

People suffering from the conditions I have listed above are being controlled by programs they have stored in their subconscious. Though they consciously want to be well their subconscious does not allow it. When there is conflict between the conscious and subconscious the subconscious always wins.

People suffering from a condition they have no control over can feel helpless, ashamed and weak. Many turn to medication to alleviate the symptoms of their condition and some even can spend years taking prescribed medication to keep some handle on the symptoms. Only dealing with the symptoms is like turning off the smoke alarm in a house but not looking for the fire.

Analytical Hypnotherapy is a method of addressing the root cause of  conditions like depression, panic attack, sleeping problems, sexual difficulties, irritable bowel, overweight, lack of confidence, fears, phobias, post traumatic stress, and smoking. Analytical hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to still the conscious analytical  mind to access the subconscious and psychotherapy to help the sufferer understand the underlying root cause and release the repressed associated emotion. This is a liberating experience for anyone experiencing the treatment and ultimately restores balance and health because the power of choice is restored. While suffering from depression or smoking cigarettes people feel like slaves to their conditions. They have been robbed of the power to choose and as a consequence are unable to stick by decisions they make consciously.  Analytical Hypnotherapy restores their power of choice and gives them back their freedom. The result is a balanced life again.

Analytical Hypnotherapy is a process or  journey within to understand who you are and why you feel the way you do. The thoughts we dwell upon affect our feelings. If you keep thinking sad thoughts you will eventually feel sad and by the same token if you keep thinking happy thoughts you will eventually feel happy. This all sounds very simple but it isn’t if you  feel you don’t have the power to choose your thoughts or if you don’t even know that you have the power to choose what to think. People who are in a state of depression are constantly dwelling on thoughts that pull their feelings down. They feel down all of the time and the depressed feeling causes them to think even more depressing thoughts which creates a cycle that can only be broken when they reclaim their power of choice.

We tend to appreciate what we have when we lose it so a person in the grip of depression realises this only too well. Free will is the freedom to choose whatever you want to think but in a state of depression you are a prisoner of your feelings and you do not have the freedom to choose your thoughts. For people  to regain their freedom or free will they must let go of the feelings they keep captive in their hearts. During Analytical Hypnotherapy it is inevitable that emotion be released and this can be in the form of tears,  laughter or a sigh. Everyone is different and each person releases emotion in their own way during therapy. The feeling they report is always positive and liberating.

Once a person uncovers the underlying emotional root cause of the condition, understands it and releases the it they can’t imagine how they could ever have been other than balanced and happy. It is like they had experienced a bad dream that feels like a distant memory.I am sometimes asked at the beginning of therapy by a client if the condition will come back. I always answer if they were to burn a match can they ever get it back? Analytical Hypnotherapy  is a natural, ethical approach to healing conditions created by the mind and our success rate reflects that this holistic approach though it may take longer works and is lasting.

Hypnotherapy by Dave Elman from Amazon.co.uk

This is a practical and very comprehensive guide for the practitioner of hypnoanalysis. The author is probably the most influential practitioner and teacher in the history of modern hypnotherapy. The book is useful for people undergoing hypnotherapy because it gives a good understanding of what hypnosis is and what they can expect in therapy. This is the best book, in our opinion,  on the subject of  hypnotherapy.

The Phyllis Krystal Method using the Figure 8 to Achieve Freedom from Attachment

JearviMost people now accept that we are much more than physical beings. We have a conscious and a subconscious mind. We have an intellect and we also have emotions.

We use language to communicate our conscious ideas and thoughts to ourselves and to each other but we use a far more complex system to communicate our feelings.

It is not what someone says but what the person feels that is communicated. Eloquent words can never truly mask feelings that are not in harmony with the spoken word. You know when someone is lying to you. You can hear their words but your gut is telling you something different.

Most of what we do in our normal waking lives is subconsciously motivated. A smoker will often find himself smoking and not remember lighting his cigarette. A person driving a car arrives at the destination but doesn’t remember the journey. A person biting her nails will suddenly suddenly realise she is doing so but not remember lifting her hand to her mouth for the purpose of biting her nails.

When we dream we are like scuba divers in the ocean of our subconscious. When we awake in the morning we bring back photographs of our feelings. Each image is a symbol representing a feeling or complex of emotions. Our dreams are an indication of our subconscious communication and our dream images are a way for us to learn the language of our subconscious. Just as we learned how to consciously communicate through language we can learn the language of the subconscious by connecting our dream symbols with the images we bring back with us. Each symbol is personal so that is why it does not make a lot of sense for anyone else to interpret our dreams for us. Our dream symbols are unique so what symbolizes something for you may not symbolize the same thing for someone else.  It is for this reason that  consulting a dream book that tells you the meaning of each symbol you bring back from your dream world is a complete waste of time. There are as many meanings as there are people in the world. You are unique and only you can decipher your own symbols. A therapist can help you learn the language of your dreams but it is not any therapist’s place to interpret your dreams for you.

Having said this, however, there are symbols that are recognised by the collective unconscious. One such symbol is the figure 8. The figure 8 is naturally recognised by each person’s subconscious and is used very effectively to communicate with the subconscious one’s conscious desire to sever unhealthy attachments to people, and addictions. It is no good shouting at the subconscious and demanding it stops you from over eating, smoking, indulging in destructive behaviours. It is no good begging your subconscious to feel good about yourself or to stop seeing your father as cruel and insensitive. Your subconscious does not understand English or any other language you speak. You must learn the language of the subconscious to communicate your wishes. Your subconscious wants to give you whatever you want even if it is bad for you. It simply answers all your requests regardless. The problem is you don’t even know that you are continuously requesting and receiving everything you ask for. There is communication between what you consciously dwell upon and how these thoughts create feelings. It is the intensity of the emotions created by the thoughts you most frequently dwell upon that forms the communication with your subconscious. You use your thoughts and feelings to order what you want in your life but you don’t know you are doing this.

The English psychotherapist, Phyllis Krystal developed a method of communicating with the subconscious for the purpose of freeing the individual from reliance on and attachment to outer symbols of control and/or security. The method involves being guided by our own inner source of wisdom which is available to everyone. Phyllis Krystal has written many books in which she describes her journey in developing the techniques that people all over the world have used with great success. She has given numerous seminars all over Europe showing people how to achieve the freedom they seek. In her book Cutting the Ties that Bind she explains how to use the symbol of the figure 8 to sever our negative attachments to people and anything else that hijacks our personal power and prevents our development as human beings.

In my private practice as a Hypnotherapist & Psychotherapist I use the techniques developed by Phyllis Krystal with most of the people who seek my help and have found them invaluable. Using the methods developed by Phyllis Krystal both personally and in my capacity as a therapist has greatly enhanced my life and my effectiveness as a healer of minds.

I have listed all the books written by Phyllis Krystal at the bottom of this article and highly recommend each one for your own personal journey to free yourself from all that holds you back in your life and to truly express who you really are.

As a Man Thinketh

James Allen

James Allen

How Thought Creates Your Reality

James Allen (1864 to 1912) was a humble man of humble origins who said what he thought and did what he said. He discovered a way to achieve happiness consistently and in all circumstances as long as certain laws of the universe were adhered to. The laws of the universe I refer to are the same laws described by all the saints, mystics and prophets down though the ages. They are the same laws decribed in the Christian Bible, the Koran of Islam, The Vedas of the Hindus and in all the sacred ancient texts. James Allen didn’t discover anything new he just became aware of how to use what was already available to each one of us.

His education was interrupted at the age of fifteen when he was forced to leave school to support his family after his father was killed. He worked hard and made the best of what life had given him. After uncovering the laws that governed reality he devoted his life to applying these laws and teaching people how to use them. He wrote nineteen books in all and though he did not receive fame or fortune in his own lifetime his books have inspired millions since his death.

I learned of James Allen when my father gave me the book “As A Man
Thinketh
” as I set out on my own life’s journey as a young man. I didn’t fully understand the ideas explained in the book at first. It has taken me many years and many readings to come to the understanding I have today of what James Allen wanted to teach the world. I would like to share with you this understanding which I practice in my own life. No doubt I will continue to refine this understanding as the years progress and I invite you to join me in exploring how our thoughts create and are constantly altering our reality.

Thought is an energy. Like electricity or magnetism you can’t see it but you know it exists because of its effects. Though electricity isn’t completely understood we use it and have become dependent on it for some of our basic needs like heat and light. Thought too can be harnessed by the mind for the effects it produces. Scientists know how to harness electricity to create heat and light but few ever learn how to harness the power of thought to create health, wealth and happiness. We are all aware of the desire for every human being to be healthy, wealthy and happy but there is no subject in the school curriculum that teaches us how to achieve these things. Can any of you remember your very first thought? Do you even remember the first thought you have on waking? Yet we spend most of our lives immersed in thought. The only times we are not thinking are times when we are driving and arrive at our destination unable to remember the journey, or when we are dozing or sleeping. Are you thinking when you are watching TV or a movie or is your mind doing something else? Surely you must remember a time during a boring lesson or meeting when you were jolted back to the present when someone called your name? Have you ever had the experience of being stuck on the same page in a book because every time you read the paragraph you can’t remember what you read?

What if thought is an energy at our disposal? What if it could be moulded to create anything we wanted in our lives but this came with a condition? In order to create something we had to deliberately choose to make it a habit to dwell on thoughts about the thing we wanted. What if it was as simple as dwelling upon a thought form in order to create what we wanted? How then could a child who thinks he is stupid ever be clever? How then could a man be poor if he dwells upon thoughts of how to create wealth? How could a woman be loved if she harbours thoughts of how unlovable she is? Thoughts are like radio waves all around us and we tune into certain frequencies depending on how we feel. The happier we feel the higher the thought forms we attract and so we simply feed ourselves more happiness. The more miserable we feel the more we attract thoughts of misery and by feeding our minds with more of the same we feel worse. It is our choice of thought initially that starts the cycle so wouldn’t it make sense to choose the thoughts to dwell upon in order to create the feelings we desire? The chair you are sitting on started off as a thought in someones head. That person must have spoken about the idea and eventually enough energy was invested in the idea to give it momentum and it is now physically manifested under you. It is not magic, it is a process and once you understand the process you can use it to create not just the feelings you desire but even the material things you want.

It is not enough to consciously think about something in order to create it. If it was that simple then everybody would be doing it and the world would be Paradise. Effort is required and the effort involved is what stands in the way of every human being receiving everything they desire. It takes effort to change the habits and patterns of lifetimes. It takes effort to change and even though you might find yourself slipping back into your old negative thoughts you have free will and you can choose whatever you want to think about. It doesn’t matter whether or not you believe it will work just choose your thoughts and investigate the possibility with an open mind. what do you have to lose? If you are poor and struggling financially choose to imagine what it would feel like to be rich. Unless you replace your thoughts of poverty with thoughts of wealth how else are you going to change your reality? Well, you could entertain the idea that you could become rich and start imagining all the ways that this could happen. You could start reading about the lives of people who rose out of the ashes to become rich and famous. You could use your powerful imagination to shift your limiting beliefs and you could change your internal dialogue to hear yourself saying…”Everyday in every way I am becoming happier and happier, I am starting to love and accept myself more and more with each passing day.” Eventually the walls of Jericho did fall and so too the walls of your negative world will crumble and you will rebuild for yourself a stronger brighter, healthier, wealthier, world. Give it a go…what have you got to lose! Thank you Dad, and thank you James Allen.
