First Impressions Once we form an impression of someone or something it is hard to change that impression. If you were frightened by a dog when you were young then the likelihood is that you will have formed the impression [...]

First Impressions

Once we form an impression of someone or something it is hard to change that impression. If you were frightened by a dog when you were young then the likelihood is that you will have formed the impression that dogs are scary. Logically you know that all dogs cannot be the same as the dog that frightened you but logic has nothing to do with feelings. It is how you feel about dogs that governs your attitude and behaviour around dogs and these feelings are as a result of the impression you formed about dogs when you first came across them.

In much the same way people have formed an impression of Hypnosis based on how it was portrayed to them when they first came across it. Most people seem to be influenced by the image of the hypnotist on the stage putting people under their spell and making them do foolish things to entertain an audience.

Once an impression like this had been formed in the mind of a person you can understand why it might then be difficult for them to see hypnosis as a tool for healing in the clinical setting. In this regard stage hypnosis had given an impression that then closes the door to the minds of many to the power to heal.

Misconceptions

Even the word hypnosis conjures up feelings and impressions that could not be further from the truth. If you see a person slumped over and seeming to be under the control of a hypnotist on stage it is no wonder that you would then come to the conclusion that hypnosis renders you vulnerable. You might have formed the impression that in hypnosis the hypnotist can make you do anything and this is a scary prospect for most people. This is why only the volunteers who are inclined to be exhibitionists are chosen by the hypnotist and that is the first stage of the elaborate illusion created by the stage entertainer in partnership with, a more than willing to please, volunteer.

In reality, hypnosis is a state of relaxation. In the state of hypnosis you suspend the part of you that would otherwise prevent you from entertaining ideas other than the ones you hold firmly to, including your belief in your own illness. However, in hypnosis you would not accept any suggestions given to you that might go against your own moral or ethical principles. In the clinical setting you are given suggestions while in hypnosis to get you to question your belief in your own illness. It is only in changing your mind about your illness that any change can take place, and this is where hypnosis is very effective.

Suggestion Therapy

Simply giving people suggestions to get better is not always the most effective approach. Therapists, like Paul McKenna, who advocate this approach, give the impression that it is the therapist who is the one in control and who is seen as a kind “Miracle Worker”! When the therapist then makes claims to the effect he can cure you and you see him in this light on TV shows and newspaper articles and in books how could you not form the impression that the therapist is the one in control and once again you are like the volunteer on stage.

The kind of therapy used by Paul McKenna is Suggestion Therapy and though it can be very effective it does not always work.

Hypno-Psychotherapy or Analytical Hypnotherapy

Here at Setanta Hypnotherapy Clinic in Peel, Isle of Man, Mary and I use a combination of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy which is also referred to as Hypno-Psychotherapy or Analytical Hypnotherapy to treat Depression, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Insomnia and any condition with at an emotional root cause. When an emotional root cause is not an obvious reason for the condition, like Smoking, Phobias, some Weight Loss and working with children, we then use Suggestion Therapy.

For most conditions we have found that unless the cause of the condition is discovered and dealt with at the subconscious level the condition was not resolved. We have treated many people over the years who had been originally treated by therapists using only Suggestion Therapy and we found that though in some cases the original symptoms were alleviated or even disappeared they were almost always replaced by new and in some cases more severe symptoms.

An opportunity for personal development

If you would look upon your symptoms as opportunities for personal development then understanding the reasons behind your problems would make more sense and the journey of healing becomes a fulfilling experience, more a challenge than a chore.

First impressions can be misleading and especially when made about alternative options to heal yourself. Hypnosis with Psychotherapy is an effective option and its ethical humane approach makes it a therapy that is growing in popularity among medical doctors who no longer see long term medication as a satisfactory solution.

Greatest Discovery of all Time

If someone were to ask you what the master discovery of the ages was, what would you answer? Well, you might suggest something in the scientific field like atomic energy or you may suggest travel to space or perhaps a cure for life threatening diseases! Great as these are, the master discovery of the ages is within all of us. It is simply the extraordinarily powerful workings of our subconscious mind.

It is through the work of great men like Sigmund Freud only in the last century and which continues to this day that we are beginning to glimpse the power behind our waking lives.

The Limitless Nature of the Subconscious

Research has shown that our conscious awareness is limited in that most of us can only focus our attention on no more than seven thoughts at a time and even when we do this we go from one to another in quick succession rather than thinking of them all at one time. The subconscious, however, is capable of attending to millions of the most intricate and complex tasks from regulating our breathing and heart beat to controlling all the chemical processes in our body.

We don’t often stop to think that if the subconscious refused to take charge of our breathing or our heart beat we could not function. Yet these are just two of the many processes which sustain life and make it possible for us to get on with our daily lives without being bogged down with thinking about taking our next breath or having the next heart beat.

As a Man Thinketh

“As a man thinketh, so he is”. These very famous words, by the sage James Allen, tell that the thoughts we dwell upon reflect how we feel and who we really are. It is our feelings that are the driving force behind our every word, action and reaction and as such paint the picture of ourselves we show to the world. It is by feeling the way we do that we attract to ourselves the people and experiences we have.

Would it then not make more sense for us to practice dwelling on thoughts that will make us feel the feelings that will attract the people and experiences we say we want. Thoughts which recur on a daily basis betray our true feelings but more importantly tell us what we have been attracting into our lives. Thinking a certain way can become a habit and like all habits we become a slave to them having no longer to consciously control them without enormous effort. Everything we attract into our lives is as a result of those very thoughts we can’t stop thinking and determine how we react to any given situation or person again and again!

The more we think that we can’t do something the more it becomes impossible to do it. Whether we are singers, actors, sport people, writers, teachers, plumbers, doctors or from any walk of life we are only as good as we believe ourselves to be. It doesn’t matter at the end of the day how much natural talent you have or gifted you are, you are limited by the belief you have in yourself.

The Prison of Irrational Fear

So many performers who could be so much better fall victim to and are paralysed by irrational fear, and the ensuing lack of confidence, to the point where they are physically sick before going on stage or before a big competition. This kind of fear imprisons us and forbids us to reach our full potential. The key to the prison which lies within is the unlocking of the power of the subconscious mind freeing us from all kinds of mental and physical bondage.

Within each of us lie infinite wisdom, infinite talent, infinite courage, and infinite love. It is all there waiting for us to use, we just have to become aware of it and learn to access it thus allowing us to make all our dreams a reality. We need to befriend the genie within each one of us.

Trust in the Power of the Subconscious

“The law of life is the law of belief”, says Dr Joseph Murphy. Do not hold yourself back by holding fast to limiting thoughts and beliefs. Use the power of your mind to see yourself at your best, performing at your best, feeling your best, looking your best and ultimately this is what you will achieve. Stop the negative criticism and feed yourself loving, inspiring words, imagine yourself performing perfectly. Do this regularly and with love and tenderness and watch the changes you bring about in your life. Remember if the subconscious can control all those things that your conscious mind can only deal with one at a time then imagine what it can do with a simple request for excellence!

Hypnosis to Harness the Power of the Subconscious

Hypnotherapy guides you to connect with the infinite power within you to achieve all the things you imagine you might like to have. After all what the mind perceives … you can achieve. With a little guidance you can learn to change your thoughts and thus change your destiny!

There is nobody in this world more qualified than you to tell you what is best for you. The problem is many of us have lost the power to hear our inner voice of wisdom. We only hear the external sounds that bombard our senses incessantly and listen only to what we have become accustomed to heeding.

Though we may speak the same language we each attach meaning to the words that only we fully understand. We live inside our heads interpreting everything we experience through our five senses and we do this automatically without thinking.

The meanings and interpretations we place on our experiences are based on our past experiences and this is an unconscious process that serves to keep us trapped in the past and in effect only being able to make choices that are governed by what we experienced in our past.

It is the way we are designed in order to survive what was once a very hostile environment. We no longer live in the stone age and though there is little danger of most of us being attacked and eaten by a wild animal when we leave our homes in the morning to go to work there are other more sinister dangers that lie in wait. The dangers I speak of are the ones we make up in our own heads and which are as real as any wild animal our ancestors had to face on a daily basis.

In order for us to overcome these imaginary fears that exert so much influence over our lives we each need to deliberately practice spending more time outside of our heads and more time living in the present moment appreciating the experience of now as separate from and unique to any experience we have ever had. This is called becoming a child again and this is what Jesus meant when he said : “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Hypnosis is a way to practice disengaging yourself from beliefs based on your past experiences and which gives you the opportunity to entertain new ways of perceiving yourself, others and the world you inhabit. Hypnosis is like a key you can use to release yourself from the prison you create from your past. Hypnosis gives you back the choice to think unhampered by unconscious forces from the past that dominate your present and which prevent you from living the life you consciously desire.

We all experience hypnosis everyday of our lives but it happens naturally and mostly when our minds are in neutral gear like when we are driving, reading a book or watching TV. Most of us are not aware that we can experience hypnosis deliberately and that we can use the feeling of hypnosis to make changes in our lives that we never thought possible.

Daily practising the art of self hypnosis will get you back your inner hearing so that you once again rely on your inner source of wisdom and regain your inner strength and freedom. Become a child again and regain your kingdom using the power of hypnosis.

Refusal to Forgive

I read an article today ”My Mom’s Addiction” by a daughter who refuses to forgive her mother. The article is a stark reminder of the damage done by drug addiction. I sent the article to a friend who spent his life addicted to alcohol and as such would be in a better position than me to comment. Following is how he replied:

“ This is my first gut reaction to this article: it sounds to me like the author of this needs to work on her own personal 8th and 9th Steps. I do not see forgiveness in this article and I do not see the perspective nor the understanding I would expect to see from an alcoholic, which the author is.

I can certainly understand the pain, confusion and bitterness associated with living in a dysfunctional family like that; what I don’t understand is being a sponsor for other newcomers to AA when it is pretty obvious this lady has quite a bit of work still to do on her own program.”

After reading my friend’s reaction I then scrolled down through the comments left at the end of this woman’s article and to my surprise I found the following comment written by a mother who explains how, without forgiveness, sobriety is meaningless and without solid foundations. Sobriety is a spiritual path based on love and forgiveness.

“I am the mother that you described. I do not know you, but this is my story. I am clean over 25 years and my daughter still refuses to forgive me for the many years of my addiction. I have come to learn, in my own recovery that I cannot expect others to change…to seek higher spiritual ground…just because I got sober. I am not the person that I was when I was drunk/loaded, but I am still not the person I was when my daughter was small.

Today I know that her childs’ mind saw what she needed as a child. Today, I pray that her refusal to forgive me and enter into adult relationship with me effects her kids in only a minimal way, but I doubt it.

Unforgiveness can be an addiction of its’ own and it can be passed from generation to generation, just like chemical addiction. Because of AA I know that resentment is the number one killer of my own personal growth in recovery. I hope and pray that God may do for you what you say that you cannot do for yourself.”

How is that for synchronicity?

Healing through the Subconscious

The power of the subconscious is beyond measure. Your subconscious controls your heart beat, the circulation of your blood, your digestive system, the growth of your hair and nails and the repairs to your body. Every time you cut yourself your subconscious mind immediately starts the clotting process, the knitting of tissue and the healing of your skin. Every time you catch a virus your subconscious starts the attack to fight off these unwanted bugs and you recover. Your subconscious mind never sleeps; it is always alert to ensure it does the best for you.

During the 1840s a Scottish surgeon, Dr James Esdaille, was practicing medicine in Bengal. This was before anaesthesia was used, but Dr Esdaille performed hundreds of major surgical operations, including amputations, removal of cancerous growths and all the usual ordinary procedures under mental anaesthesia. That is to say … under hypnosis. These patients said they felt no pain and unlike so many operations performed else throughout the world at that time, none of Dr Esdaille’s patients died. Over one and a half centuries ago this man used the power of the subconscious mind to successfully treat his patients!

Can we heal ourselves?

Worry, fear, depression, anxiety all upset the normal functions of the heart, lungs, stomach and the digestive system. The American philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Man is what he thinks all day long.” If you are weighed down with worries, fear or anxiety your thoughts will reflect this. In fact, your thoughts will feed all of the above and the more you dwell on these negative thoughts the worse you feel physically.

I once read a story about a Native American Indian who was sitting at the camp fire with his grandson one night. He was explaining to the boy that inside all of us there are two wolves. One wolf is good, the wolf of kindness, confidence, generosity, love, tolerance etc. The other wolf is bad, the wolf of fear, greed, self loathing, lack of confidence etc. These two wolves are always battling inside of us. The little pondered on this for a few moments and then asked his grandfather “Which wolf wins?” The Grandfather replied, “The one you feed!”

We can heal ourselves by giving positive life healing suggestions to our subconscious minds; we can exchange the negative thoughts for positive thoughts. We all have an active mind and a reactive body and when we “feed the wolf” within with positive thoughts we experience wellness and health.

The Healing Power of Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy can help you to reach your subconscious mind and make the positive changes you want to make. Through the power of hypnosis you can learn to stop that monkey mind which automatically focuses on negative thoughts and feelings and instead focus on success, confidence, peace of mind and relaxation of body thus enabling you to be the person you truly are. Living life to the full with harmony and equilibrium.

The book, The power of the Subconscious Mind is one of the most widely acclaimed self-help books ever written. The techniques taught in the book are based on The Law of Attraction. Simply stated – If you believe in something without reservation and make the effort to regularly repeat it and picture it in your mind then you will remove the obstacles that prevent you from achieving what you want and your belief becomes a reality.

The following is a letter from a woman named Ruth to Dr Joseph Murphy, author of the famous self-help book , The Power of the Subconscious Mind illustrating how she harnessed the power of her subconscious mind to find true love at the age of seventy five.

Cute old couple by ~Gurbz

I am seventy five years old, a widow with a grown family. I was living alone, on a small pension and Social Security. My life seemed barren, hopeless. Then I remembered your lecture about the powers of the subconscious mind. You said that ideas could be conveyed to the subconscious mind by repetition, faith, and expectancy. Could it be true? I decided to try. I had nothing to lose.

I began to repeat frequently, with all the feeling I could muster, “I am wanted. I am loved. I am happily married to a kind, loving, and spiritually-minded man. I am secure and fulfilled.”

I kept doing this many times a day for about two weeks. One day at the corner drugstore, I was introduced to a retired pharmacist. I found him to be kind, understanding, and very religious. He was a perfect answer to my prayer. Within a week he proposed to me. Now we are on our honeymoon in Europe. I know that the intelligence within my subconscious mind brought both of us together in divine order.

Here at Setanta Hypnotherapy Clinic , our private practice in Peel Isle of Man, Xavier and Mary Nathan teach their clients how to harness the power of their subconscious minds in order to achieve the results they seek in their lives.

The following is an article by Bill Holland which takes the reader on a journey inside the mind of man who once was addicted to alcohol. Bill is an alcoholic who has not touched a drop of alcohol in the last five years.

I came across Bill in HubPages where he writes under the name billybuc. Bill’s articles on alcoholism had a profound affect on me because I had never come across such an honest and open account of what it feels like from the inside and after reading one powerful story after another by Bill I asked him to write a guest post for our blog. Here is Bill’s story and for any of you out there who are struggling with addiction read the rest of Bill’s stories in Hubpages and be inspired by his life and his message. If you know anyone struggling with addiction then let Bill’s story be a message of hope and please share it with them.

If you live in the Isle of Man and after reading this story you feel that you would like help to overcome your alcohol addiction you are always welcome to come and see Mary or Xavier Nathan who treat addiction using a combination of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy at their private practice in Peel, Setanta Hypnotherapy Clinic. To book a free initial consultation you can call either Xavier or Mary on 842938.

I did not grow up hoping to be an alcoholic. As a child I did not wish one day to be alienated from society, locked in a world of solitude and fear, nor did I have any idea that I carried the disease of alcoholism within me. As an adopted child I had no warning of what was to come, no medical records or family history to read that would alert me of the dangers lurking in the shadows.

You see, alcoholism is a cunning and baffling disease, one that lies in wait until the unsuspecting finally takes that fateful detour in life and stumbles down a road that for some is a one-way street of hopelessness and ultimately death.

As is the case with most alcoholics I knew I had a problem with alcohol long before I finally admitted that I was an alcoholic. The key, I reckoned, was to fine-tune my drinking. I attempted to only drink on weekends and when that didn’t work to only drink with friends. When those solutions failed I changed my drinks, only drinking beer or only drinking mixed drinks, always looking for the key that would unlock the world of responsible drinking. The key, for me, was not to be found for I had unleashed the devil and the devil was in fact me.

You see, alcohol is only a symptom of the real problem with an alcoholic. We alcoholics are in truth running from ourselves, so disgusted with who we are that we continually seek solace in the mind-numbing effects of the drink. It is, of course, only a temporary solution because no matter where we go, there we are. We simply cannot run from ourselves and that knowledge, when it is finally realized, is the most devastating of them all.

We may not have a choice in being an alcoholic but once we realize that we are and once we realize that there is a solution we do have a choice. You will gather no sympathy from me if you are an alcoholic, nor did I deserve any. What you will receive from me is empathy for I know the suffering you have gone through and I know all too well the hopelessness that accompanies this disease.

Hope was finally offered to me in Alcoholics Anonymous. I make no claims that AA is the only way for an alcoholic to find happiness and peace of mind. I am not a Big Book thumper nor am I a paid representative for that organization. I can only tell my story and if it helps others then I am pleased.

In Alcoholics Anonymous I found a solution. By practicing the Twelve Steps in my daily life I have found freedom from a disease that was determined to kill me. Do you find it strange that I attribute human qualities to a disease, as though the disease itself has a mind capable of making decisions? It is not so strange at all because for me it is impossible to separate the disease from who I am. It is always patiently waiting for me, doing push-ups so to speak for that moment when I let down my guard and become susceptible to its siren song.

It is up to me to keep that seductress at bay. I have a choice to live or to die. It should be noted that I did not quit drinking because I feared death. A little over five years ago, alone in a hotel room in Anchorage, Alaska, one day from certain death, I did not fear death. Instead, some weak light of hope shined within me and it was that light of hope I clung to and which eventually led me back to the halls of Alcoholics Anonymous and a new life.

Today I love life. Today I live my life to spread that light of hope to others out there who may be close to giving up the struggle. Today I choose to live!

Following is story from the book The Power of the Subconscious Mind by Dr Joseph Murphy which clearly illustrates how, by harnessing the power of the subconscious mind, we can achieve great things:

Once Enrico Caruso, the great operatic tenor, was struck with stage fright. Spasms caused by intense fear constricted the muscles of his throat. His vocal chords felt paralysed, useless. He stood back- stage, already in costume, while perspiration poured down his face. In just moments he was supposed to go out on stage and sing before an eager audience of thousands.

Trembling, he said, “ I can’t sing. They will all laugh at me. My career is finished.”

He turned to go back to his dressing room. Then suddenly he stopped and shouted. “The Little Me is trying to strangle the Big Me within!”

He turned toward the stage again and stood taller. “ Get out of here,” he commanded, addressing the Little Me. “ The Big Me wants to sing through me.”

By the Big Me, Caruso meant the limitless power and wisdom of his subconscious mind. He began to shout, “Get out, get out, the Big Me is going to sing!”

His subconscious mind responded by releasing the vital forces within him. When the call came, he walked out on stage and sang gloriously and majestically. The audience was enthralled.

Caruso understood the two levels of mind – the conscious or rational, and the subconscious or irrational level. Your subconscious mind is reactive. It responds to the nature of your thoughts. When your conscious mind (Caruso’s Little Me) is full of fear, worry and anxiety, the negative emotions these create in your subconscious mind (the Big Me) are released. They flood the conscious mind with a sense of panic, foreboding, and despair. When this happens to you, you can follow the example of the great Caruso. You can speak affirmatively and with a deep sense of authority to the irrational emotions generated in the deeper mind. You can say, “Be still. Be quiet. I am in control. You must obey me. You are subject to my command. You cannot intrude where you don’t belong.”

You will be fascinated to see what happens when you speak authoritatively and with conviction to the irrational movement of your deeper self. Your mind will be flooded with harmony and with peace. The subconscious is subject to the conscious mind. That is why it is called subconscious or subjective.

Here at their private practice, Setanta Hypnotherapy Clinic, in Peel, Isle of Man Xavier and Mary Nathan teach people how to harness the power of their subconscious minds to achieve their goals.

Mind Experiment

To investigate how much control you really have over your choice of the thoughts you think try the following mind experiment. Focus your mind on a particular thought. You could choose to think of an image, a sound, a smell, a taste or even a sensation. It doesn’t matter the kind of thought you choose to think, just try focussing on that single thought for no more than a period of 3 minutes. It might seem like very simple exercise to perform but for most people thinking one thought for more than even one minute is simply not possible.

Focus

Don’t take my word for it. Before you continue reading this article, you try it! Sit comfortably in a chair with feet on the ground, back straight and eyes closed. Before you close your eyes take a peek at the clock. Now focus your attention on the air entering and leaving your nose. Focus your mind on the feel of the air entering and leaving the nose and say the word “in” when the air is entering and “out” as it leaves your nose. Whenever you find that your mind has strayed from the task open your eyes and see for yourself how long it took for you to lose control of your attention to your thought.

Meditation

This is precisely what the wise men of old noticed and they believed that if they could not control their thoughts then the mind was free to reek havoc in their lives. They understood that the thoughts we persistently dwell upon affect how we feel which in turn creates the life we experience. Our feelings attract the people and the experiences in our lives and for this reason they felt it essential to find a way to get the mind to dwell upon thoughts that would create the life they wanted so that they were no longer victims of random thought forms chosen for them by their subconscious. This led to a practice we now know as meditation.

Meditation is a practice that develops our ability to focus the mind on the thoughts that will create the life we want. It does this by training the mind to obey us. If you liken the mind to a monkey that noisily chatters and jumps from branch to branch then training the monkey to serve you is one of the objects of meditation.

With the monkey mind under our control we are then in a position to take the reins, as it were, and create the life we desire.

Rescue from Chaos

In this day and age we nurture chaos by feeding our minds with the kind of stimulation and distraction that is now readily available to all of us. We even pander to the monkey minds of our children in giving them free rein to wander where they will. Rather than teaching our children how to gain control of their minds we encourage them be become victims of their minds which ceaselessly require activity and stimulation. How many times do we hear children say they are bored when not provided with the external stimulation that their minds have grown used to? The mind is a bottomless pit that will eventually devour the people who have never learned to tame it. You need only look around at how dissatisfied people are with their lives to see the evidence of this all about us. The key to our freedom and happiness is in placing a ceiling on our desires, appreciating what we have and dwelling on the thoughts that create inner peace and happiness. Meditation is one a step in the right direction.

The Bouncer!

Our conscious mind acts like a ‘bouncer’ at a night club! One of its most important functions is to protect the subconscious mind from suggestions that might undermine what we believe to be true about ourselves and the world. It is that critical part of the mind which tells us what is right and what is wrong, what is good for us and what is bad for us according to our own beliefs about reality.

Our subconscious mind, on the other hand, accepts everything thrown at it depending on our individual subconscious belief system. All of us have our own fears, beliefs and opinions and these govern our lives. For example, if somebody was to suggest to Mark Cavendish that he’d be unstable every time he got up on a bike, he would just laugh and set off to win another cycling title! His subconscious belief just would not accept that as true and he would scoff at the very idea. The same suggestion given to another person could easily be accepted and that person would never ride a bike confidently again.

Autosuggestion

A suggestion like any string of words put together has no power in itself; its power comes from the individual who accepts it. For a suggestion to be accepted by the subconscious you must first find a way to circumvent the critical factor, the ‘bouncer’ that guards its entrance. In hypnosis your critical faculty is not in play to the same degree that it is when you are fully aware. Suggestions given to a person who is deeply relaxed as in hypnosis are more likely to be accepted by the subconscious. Suggestions accepted by the subconscious are like seeds that eventually grow and bear fruit. This is how suggestion has the power to influence perception and affect changes we desire.

Who among us does not hear the voice telling us how stupid we are when we make a mistake or how fat we look in some clothes or how inadequate we are in certain situations?

Following are examples of the kind of ‘autosuggestions’, suggestions we regularly give ourselves:

Do any of the following sound familiar?

I can’t do it

I’m too old

My memory is going

I’m too fat

I’m not fit enough

I’d look stupid

I can’t afford

I don’t have enough … and so on.

The simple truth is that the more you think these thoughts the more you experience the lack that they are designed to create! Your subconscious mind will do its best to give you what you ask it for. So if you keep telling yourself that you are no good then that is what you get!

Logic v Emotion

Wouldn’t it then, make more sense to focus on more positive thoughts and suggestions? Logically, yes, it would make more sense but logic is not the driving force behind the thoughts we automatically dwell upon. The real power behind our thoughts and feelings is the subconscious which is inaccessible to the logical conscious mind unless we can distract the critical factor for long enough.

With the ‘bouncer’ distracted we could give ourselves the following suggestions:

I can achieve anything I want

I remember everything I need to remember; everyday my memory is getting better and better!

I’m young, fit and healthy

I have more than enough for all my needs

I love my life

Hijacked Mind

As adults we think we are in control of our own thoughts, even though all of us know that our minds are regularly hijacked by a voice that tells us the opposite to what we consciously say we want. Of course, there is nobody else in my head forcing me to think negatively about myself or others. The voice is my own and I have taught myself to think the way I do by the suggestions I and others have given me from the time of my birth. In order to change what I say to myself to be more positive and see love and joy in everyone and everything I need to enlist the power behind my life…my subconscious!

Heterosuggestions

Heterosuggestions are those suggestions which are passed on to us as children. The beliefs our parents hold are passed down to us, the role education plays has the effect of controlling young people from the age of four by rules and expectations. Some of the suggestions are wonderful and some are very negative. Unfortunately as children we are unable to filter these suggestions we are bombarded with from birth so we take some on board and rebel against others; the good, the bad, and the downright crazy! That is why you will have such a diverse variety of characters that have taken on board some traits of their parents and rejected others.

The Power of Choice through Hypnosis

As adults, though, it is so empowering to know that we are the masters of our own minds. We actually have a choice. By reconditioning our subconscious minds using positive autosuggestions we can be the people we were truly meant to be. Free from negative conditioning imposed in childhood. Constructive autosuggestions can change your life!

At Setanta Hypnotherapy Clinic we have guided many clients to change their beliefs about themselves and the world they live in to become happier, freer and more joyous people.
